I'm trying to get back to the kind of directness I worked with last year, before reviews and graduate school have made me think too much before acting.
Arranging objects in space.
Forming unusual and awkward connections.
Blurring the lines between image and object.

model for gigantic sculpture
I am back at school after a long, relaxing, and productive winter break. I can already tell that this, my final semester at Cranbrook, is going to be FAST and full of excitement. There is alot of work that needs to be done, and I can't wait to get in to it. Our CNC machine is just days away from being fully operational, and I am completely overwhelmed with ideas for new work.
After digesting the feedback I got from the faculty at reviews in December, I've realized a few things... the first of which being that my paintings need to get lot bigger, and a bit less tasteful, or "polite" as Beverly might say. Also, the response I've been receiving about the architectural-looking wooden support systems has been pointing me towards the direction of furniture making. I've been getting homesick for Lancaster and looking through books about antique Pennsylvania Dutch pine furniture. I guess it's just one of those things that you don't fully appreciate until you get away with it for awhile...
Expect more updates soon. The studio is a flurry of activity... and Bloomfield Hills is so covered in snow that I can't do anything besides make work!
